Attention All Inalnd Empire People – Urban Fruit Harvesting

Hi all….
first, thank you for taking the time to read this post.

I watched a short YouTube Video on Urban Fruit Harvesting…

I am inspired…

We have an abundance of fruit growing on trees in residential areas of the Inland Empire. But every year, this delicious organic food drops without being harvested. Meanwhile, many people living on low incomes have limited access to fresh fruit, vital to a healthy diet.

I would like to get together and gather the fruit before it falls, and make this valuable resource available to those who need it.

So, if you know of anyone who has fruit tress, please let me know.

Even if it’s just one tree, it’s okay.

I am going to gather up places to pick trees and then organized a volunteer outing to start harvesting. Bring home what you want and the rest I will give to local food banks, homeless shelters and other organizations who may need fruit.

Are you in? You know of anyone who has trees, do you want to help harvest? Volunteer a truck, containers, pickers, people…..???anything you can help out with would be much appreciated.

Thank you for your support.

Making a difference, lighting my footprint….

Pumpkin Picking at Riley’s Farm in Oak Glen, CA

You know it’s October when you are seeing pumpkins EVERYWHERE!!!

We spent the day picking for our first pumpkins of the season at Riley’s Farm.

Just last month we went to pick some apples and raspberries.

The 760 acre farm is in a beautiful location, in the foothills of San Gorgonio mountains. The farm is owned by the Riley family and about 35 members still live in various residences on the property, which is 4 miles long. Several of their employees live full time or part time on the farm as well.

Currently, you can pick your own apples, pears and pumpkins. They offer many different variety of each fruit as well. The selection of apples, pumpkins and pears available for U-Pick was extensive and easy to get to.  The farm is quite large, and the apple and pear trees are marked with color coded flags so you know what kind of apples and pears you are picking.

Once you pick your pumpkin, they’ll weigh it and then charge you a small amount.

There are also a lot of activities here designed to educate kids about farm life. During the week they offer educational programs and tours for local schools. The petting zoo only cost $5 and you are able to feed goats, sheep and a few horses.

This little pumpkin came home with Raleigh.

And mine is the white and green stripy one!!!

Important notes:

*There isn’t a drop of alcohol or carbonated sodas offered or served. If you’re looking for a bar, you’ll need to look else where.

We decided to head across the street to a Mexican resturant that serves ice cold Beer…and had a band…

Green Valley Lake Camping Trip – California

My family, Mariana, Pork and Joey headed out to the San Bernardino Mountains to Green Valley Lake for a three day camping trip.

We settled in at camp spot 33. Which is my favorite number. Actually, any number with 3 in it is my favorite.

That number pretty much guaranteed us a good time.

Nature + food + guitars + drums+ drinks+ friends + husband and a fire= ???

Oak Glen – Riley’s Farm – Apple and Raspberry Picking

Raspberry Picking

Riley’s is the first apple farm as you enter Oak Glen. Its main feature is U-Pick apples, but there are also a lot of activities here designed to educate kids about farm life. During the week they offer educational programs and tours for local schools. The selection of apples raspberries available for U-Pick was extensive and easy to get to. They also have U-Pick pumpkins and U-Press cider. The farm is quite large, and the apple trees are marked with color coded flags so you know what kind of apples you are picking.

You are not suppose to eat the fruit before you buy them, but Raleigh couldn’t resist. Delicious, fresh-picked, red, juicy raspberries. Who can, really?

Raleigh had no problem picking from the apple tree and eating right away.

Shon and I were surprised on how crisp and juicy the apples were. Yummy!

A Sneak Peak:

3.) Who would you thank the most for your success?
A: Mom and Dad, mom for being a artist and Dad for being a level thinker. I got a little of both, they always supported me no matter what. Katrina my super awesome fiancee, she really puts up with my crazy.

Maxx242 for believing in me more then I did years ago.

Mr. Barker for giving me a chance to do what I do.

The love of art for helping me decide it was time to go out on my own and do the freelance thing. Grow as an artist and experiment with new ideas, and work towards a new chapter in my life. For me it’s not the end result it’s the process, and the process is barely getting started.
