Urban Fruit Gleaning – Our Article in Good.is Magazine April 3, 2009

picture-6

Hi…This is my personal recipe and family blog site, but I am also involved with a fruit gleaning project in Riverside, CA picking neighborhood fruit from overflowing fruit trees and donating the fresh fruit to the local Food Bank, Second Harvest Food Bank and others in need. Our name is Inland Empire Urban Fruit Harvesting.

Good.is Magazine wrote a Food Grows on Trees article on groups who are gleaning for donations. We just happen to be one of them. Please check out the article and spread the word….

Homemade T-shirt Blanket for my hubby February 16, 2009

dsc01656

Hi there…..here is my latest creation. A homemade, t-shirt blanket made from Shon’s older t-shirts.

The t-shirts were just piling up, but he didn’t want to get rid f them, so creativity set in..let’s make a blanket….

dsc01658

This blanket tells many of his stories…from all different times of his life.

dsc01659

Some of the shirts, he designed. Some he just loved and others have lots of memories…

dsc01660

neat, hau?

dsc01663

the back of the blanket, I used some old camo curtains that were hanging in Shon’s work…they were just throwing it away…why?

I’ll take it…and MAKEĀ  SOMETHING!!!

Thank for your interest and letting me share…

Handmade T-Shirt Toddler Blanket made with Used T-Shirts January 5, 2009

dsc01198

Handmade T-shirt Blanket made from Raleigh’s old t-shirts, blanket and receiving blankets…

dsc01199

This is my first attempt at any kind of blanket, patch work or quilt. I sewed this blanket with a sewing machine and tread. I cut the t-shirts into equal squares and then cut the blankets to fit around. I had a great time with this project. However, it feels good to be done!

dsc01203

I just winged this one…not measuring very carefully, but I have learned. The next blanket, which will be for Shon will be a bit more precise.

Now, I have all those memories, smells and feelings all rolled up into a blanket he can use and keep forever.

:)

thank you for looking…

Bird Mobile..

I got this wonderful idea from Spool Sewing Blog.

I pretty much just copied what they did. However, it turned out a bit different….

The balancing act was difficult and was taken over by my husband, who did a wonderful job.

This bird mobile is going to my brother and his wife who live on a farm

with three horses, two dogs, two cats, fish, chickens, roosters, goats and many other little critters.

These birds will be a beautiful addition to their home.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a Healthy New Year

Roasted Pumpkin Seeds October 31, 2008

Roasted Pumpkin Seeds

Separate the seeds of a freshly carved pumpkin from the stringy membrane. Rinse the seeds just until they are free of any membrane matter. This may take several washes and rises.

The last wash, keep the water in the bowl with the seeds and add salt.

Soak for 20 minutes.

Heat the oven to 325 degrees F.

Put the seeds on a towel and let them dry for a few minutes.
Place the seeds back into a dry bowl.

Drizzle olive oil over the seeds and sprinkle with sea salt.
Put the seeds on the baking sheet in a single layer.
Put the baking sheet in the oven. Cook the seeds for 16 to 20 minutes, or until brown and slightly crisp.
Allow to cool before eating.
Store seeds in an airtight container.
